   I thought of a way to add some sort of federation support to VNDB, making it easier for people to run their own derivative databases.

   While that is super awesome, it's also going to be a shitton of effort to implement, and I'm not seeing much enthusiasm from the community about running VNDB clones. People much rather complain. :blobcatoh:

     @ayo Yeah federation pretty really hard and in the case of vndb I'm not sure what it would be useful for… non-visual novels and so should definitely be separated sites?
     I wonder what are the complains, like some people would actually want federation for vndb?

     @ayo I don't think that would change at all with introducing federation. After all, they'd still need to host their own piece of the web and get their stuff linked.
     
     I think regular hyperlinks and them setting up a more or less dedicated search engine (which could use API or db-dumps, and be decently powerful/advanced) would make more sense.

     @lanodan Lots of people disagreeing with the inclusion criteria, or demanding that VNDB also cover their other favorite niche game genre.

     I keep telling them to create their own database, but it never happens...

     @ayo And I think if I wanted to just not have the inclusion criteria which I think is useful to get good maintenance/moderation/… I'd use Wikidata.
     Which is never going to be as powerful but that's no-inclusion-criteria for you I guess.
