     @Pawlicker @hj @coolboymew the problem for those who want an escape from Twix is, where to? the Fediverse is an option, but one that can be frankly confusing to newcomers (unless they're genuine idiots, in which case yeah they'll stay on Twitter).
     Bluesky, well, you have first-hand experience why it sucks. Nostr, I forgot about its existence. Instagram Threads, the Star Wars opening crawl of a ToS/PP says enough.

     So the thing with newcomers and fedi is this; they always run to the big instances for several reasons. They're likely to get interactions if they're focusing on the "in group" (the instance itself), there's the illusion of stability (if it can have this many users it must be stable right?), and most importantly it has brand recognition. Normies still have the mindset of walled gardens where they want to be where all the people are at, and specifically their friends.
     
     The fedi not working like this is an unreal culture shock and if Bluesky ever goes federated the same thing will apply. None of them want to deal with running an instance or jumping instances because the owner bailed out or went crazy. They're so used to the mindset of building up their "brand" or their posting career of thousands of posts that having to start all over again is something hard to do.

     @atlas_core @coolboymew @hj There's also the fact that with the death of imageboards, just like with the death of Tumblr the users there don't just vanish into thin air. Instead they went to places like the fediverse.
     
     So all the battle hardened shitposters who either used imageboards at one time or who were active until the troons killed it (such as with the /qa/ raid on /tttt/) and who don't want to go to the hellscape of places like the sharty being attacked by CP spammers (either angry "no bad tactics" leftists, feds, or the edgiest kids online depending on who you talk to), settled on the fedi and so you have a non-zero chance of dealing with the same people who called you a fag on MW2.

     There isn't a less censor happy version of say joinfediverse.wiki.

     @Pawlicker @hj @coolboymew I don't find offense in newcomers flocking to mastodon.social, mastodon.online or mstdn.social, maybe because that's what I first did in 2021, but yeah, some guidance to newcomers definitely should be useful, and someone somewhere to recommend them instances can also be useful. (but then, who will bother?)

     @Pawlicker @atlas_core @hj @coolboymew yea thats the thing, i heard people, primarily bot, claiming that it's superior to fedi because you cannot be defederated at all, but i think whatever relays are there can still blacklist you and other users can block you too, so like, its basically barely different from fedi except it feels like the entirety of bitcoinhackers instance migrated there to religiously worship bitcoin

     @coolboymew @Pawlicker @lina @atlas_core @hj Maybe it's because of my libertarian views. I don't discuss crypto that much, but I do occasionally share news articles, and discuss other libertarian projects such as seasteading and 3D-printing.

     I do have an account on Nostr, but I only post gamedev stuff on there and I feel like I have more Nostr users following me on here than on actual Nostr.

     @Pawlicker @lina @atlas_core @hj @coolboymew Maybe it will pick up with time. I think we’re still trying to figure out what to do with any federated service, to be honest. I’m not sure if it’s just that we haven’t struck the right set of features or we don’t have the right goal/aim.
