   can we stop depicting vicings with horned helmets? afaik they never had horns on their helmets, did they?

     also helmets with horns are a dumb concept to begin with. like why giving an enemy in a fight the advantage to grab you by the horns and pull you around

     i think it stems from their victims - you can't tell others that you have been beaten by a bunch of skinny, pale, well shaved blokes with golden hair, can you? 😅

     @pmj@social.pmj.rocks der vergleich hinkt ein bissl mMn. das eine sind legenden, wie man sie fast in jeder community findet (anderes bspl krabat) und irgendwo auf einen oder mehreren wahren kern zurückgeführt werden kann. wahrend das andere eine darstellung ist und weder eine geschichte erzählt und (im falle der vikinger helme) komplett aus der luft gegriffen sind. klar, das eine kann bestandteil des anderen sein, aber das macht das eine nicht umbedingt vergleichbar mit dem anderen

     @puniko Horned helmets were a Celtic thing. They weren't for fighting in though.
