I do have a need.
Since there is a lot of food discussion that goes on here...
I need to redesign my meal around the microwave oven and refrigerator. If you have recipes and good meal plans all based on the microwave, I'd like to see them.
TY!

@PG_Kelly big ass pot of chili, refrigerated (or frozen), eaten over rice will keep you fed for quite a while. real rice, not that instant crap, takes 20 minutes to make and can also be made in bulk - foolproof and almost zero effort with a cheap rice cooker. keeps well in the fridge for easily 2-3 days
@PG_Kelly another recipe that can follow the same plan and is one of my favorites is this one, works best IMO with andouille sausage

@Mummabear @PG_Kelly yeah my wife is planning a long trip to visit her family in a couple months and doesn't trust me to eat properly on my own, so we've been discussing this exact topic quite a bit lately 😅
@mh @PG_Kelly I've started to batch cook.
Saves me money and time. And we all eat better too 👍
@mh I like that. I just have to watch the salt. A little chili what a medium salad sounds great. TY!
@Mummabear @PG_Kelly should also mention, if you have one or can drop $50 or so on one, a slow cooker. you don't have to only eat reheated stuff, throw a chunk of pork or beef, mushroom soup or onion soup mix and a couple potatoes in there in the morning and you're good to go in the evening. (again, can extend for a few more days with rice)
@mh I love andouille sausage. This is bookmarked too!
@mh It's tough. I've cooked for 3 people then two. Now it is just me. I don't really cook. Over the years, we got to splitting frozen food entrees with a Salad Kit. the even became too much work.
@mh We wanted to buy one for the last three years. Once we got in the new place three years ago we put on on our list. My sister was totally against buying stuff. She didn't want to be controlled by her possessions. (maybe another clue I missed).
@PG_Kelly I understand the sentiment but yeah, some semblance of self reliance is the first step toward being able to discard frivolous possessions. I would say being able to make food is probably the first and most important step in that direction.
honest question, if the goal was to live like a pauper why would y'all move to LA of all places, one of the most expensive and frivolous places on the planet? that's doing it on hard mode.
@mh That is a good question. basically, we moved back home. We are about 36 miles from where we we raised. Both my sister and I spent time all over Los Angeles and, when older, the entire SoCal area.
@mh @PG_Kelly love my slow cooker. I make a stew every month. Cook a chicken in it, it's lovely. Or any joint really 💞
