     We used to hang out at a mini racetrack in the 90s. It was indoors and the track was massive. It was usually pretty busy, too.

     It seems like they would..
     
     People have told me that they used to have places where people could take their slot cars, I think the larger versions-whatever scale standard they were, and race each other for fun. I don't imagine they'd want them flying off the track and breaking but who knows. It was probably in the 70s/80s when it was popular so I never saw it first hand.

     Ah, I see what you mean now. Ours didn't have breaks, you just let off the "throttle" and it would slow down some, but then I don't think ours was very fancy.

     No brakes at all. It was timing. Guessing if you let off later whether you could keep on track.

     Coming out of a straight away. You either hit breaks to try and make hit or gas to send the car flying off. And they would fly. The pin in the track was tiny.

     Like what @thadius mentioned, but smaller. I just remember cornering the track so they didn't fly off was half the fun.

It's early and I just grabbed a coffee, so I thought Mr. Yakuza above was real and didn't look at the other characters. I totally expect a comically bright colors to be a thing a Japanese crime syndicate would use, sort of like Italian mafia using stereotypical restaurant with the pasta and flower shop and such 🤌🏻.
