@TheWitchBitch@Cousin_Isobel There are plenty of ridiculous things that go on in this country and barely make a dent in our overall level of ignorance.
And now gov has allowed all non-Canadian media to completely censor all Canadian media from THEIR media. We have effectively been silenced as a nation and this will never be on the MSN.
@TheWitchBitch@Cousin_Isobel This country is way more of a mess than it appears on the outside. Fortunately most people are decent, 'normal' and non-violent. So far.
We certainly had the least violent protest the world has seen in recent years!
@Cousin_Isobel@LaylaAlexandrovna I had someone do that at a job too. A woman claimed I told her she had to sit outside when it was 111° with her 7 month old baby. What I actually said is that she couldn't bring her baby into the shared job skills testing room. For obvious reasons.
@TheWitchBitch@Cousin_Isobel Actually, now I think of it, I've had several jobs that ended due to false accusations. Yikes, what kind of person am I? ARGH.
Thankfully all of this ended for me quite some yrs ago. The second last part time job ended Jan 2019 and I hadn't worked full time since 2003 when a ton of social workers were laid off in BC for no apparent reason except the premier (like a gov in the US) thought there were too many. This is when some of us had caseloads of more than 500 - financial welfare social workers that is.
@LaylaAlexandrovna I want people to be able to post stuff online and still keep their jobs. This woman bordered on testing the limits of my tolerance, but I still reluctantly support her. She might not want her sister to date a white man, but I’m sure there have been many successful teachers who quietly opposed interracial dating. We just didn’t know everyone’s thoughts 30 or 40 years ago. Ideally, we still wouldn’t, especially not in the form of some sort of video blog in which people talk about their own families. It’s too much sharing. Nonetheless, I wouldn’t have fired her.
I’ll have to check out Derry Girls; it’s on my list, but I haven’t watched it yet.
@Cousin_Isobel I don't know but back in the day, people would have kept such thoughts to themselves for the most part, at least in the places I was working and hanging. Maybe it's better to know what people are thinking? I dunno.
Most of the time I should probably just let things go by as is suggested in most mental health practices!
(For me, the one job I remember being fired from was due to false accusations and I never did find out where they came from or why nor did the boss understand how logically I couldn't possibly have done what they said I had!)
@LaylaAlexandrovna i’m sorry you lost your job! Someone tried to get me on false accusations a couple of decades ago, as well, but fortunately, it didn’t work. People trying to get each other fired goes way back; it’s just easier now.
I really wish the Internet were just for totally private interactions (like secure email) and maybe anonymous message board type things that employers understand they may not police. So many of us have followed Zuckerberg’s suggested of using our real names, though, that it’s kind of too late. Maybe we can all stop by around 2025 and agree to not hold anything posted before that time against each other.
