      Another round of speculative-execution vulnerabilities
There is a newly disclosed set of vulnerabilities in Intel processors that have been given the name Downfall attacks.

Sadly ARM are still a lot of glorified not-so-open-source / open-spec embedded-centric boards and RISC-V isn't yet something I could really bet on given the lack of decent hardware.

@selfisekai And IIRC it's not mainline nor generic-boot-able (such as having UEFI on an SPI flash), so for me it's about as useful as a tamagotchi.

@selfisekai @lanodan ClockworkPi has been shipping RISC-V CPUs as an option in their devices. There are a few RISC-V systems shipping, chip manufacturers are starting to pick it up as an alternative to licensing ARM. Milk-V is attempting a really beefy one: https://liliputing.com/milk-v-pioneer-is-a-64-core-risc-v-workstation-for-1199-and-up-crowdfunding/ .

@lanodan @selfisekai That is a bit obscene. They did call it the "Pioneer", though. I don't expect much polish on it. I barely expect the RISC-V board I ordered from CPi to work correctly when it (finally) arrives.

      > plus a build server that's not slow as balls.

:kenbw: Everything cross-compiles. The hardest part is remembering which letter means which CPU.
:rms: You have to recompile the compiler for every combination of CPU/board/OS and shove it somewhere in /opt.

@p @selfisekai Building stuff also often means having to run non-native binaries, specially for testsuites which ought to be ran on real hardware.
(And QEMU binfmt is really slow, like if I was making stuff for sparc64 I'd probably use my Sun Blade 150)
