@yuki2501 I think you could replace the dedicated players with a micro PC (e.g. NUC) + external optical drives, actually. Should give superior results without the DRM - at least with DVD, need to look into BluRay. I wouldn't use something like an RPi because BluRay might be too much for it.
@ocdtrekkie@yuki2501 looks like BluRay supports key revocation which means playing a disc that's too new can render parts of your previous library unplayable.
This thing is so hostile that you might get better service by first buying the disc for your library and then downloading a pirated copy for actual use.
@Polychrome@yuki2501 Perhaps technically, but not practically: Anyone who tried to make their old Blu-rays unplayable would get sued horribly. I don't believe it has ever happened.
