@blaaablaaaa@Bad_Banner@InceptionState@PunishedD There's gonna be a huge die-off. Nobody knows exactly when it's going to start (or maybe it already has), how long it's going to take, whether it will be a serious of catastrophic events or just gradually everyone dying and killing themselves from the thousands of metaphorical cuts they receive over time, but it's going to happen.
The main acceptable answer to the "What happens when you get older?" question right now seems to be, "I'm just trying not to think about it," and the honest answer is, "I'll probably kill myself when I can't take it anymore."
@PunishedD@Bad_Banner@blaaablaaaa Think about this from the perspective of say a 23 year-old who just graduated college, who made some bad decisions and ran up say $25k in CC debt.
- Insurance companies? Sure, credit score is a variable but it's a much smaller factor than claim history and age/gender. - Bank loan officers? The only loan they are getting is a secured car loan, and Nissan will approve them. - Startup investors? They run standard background checks, but many of them would consider bankruptcy a badge of honor. - Security clearance? Yes, but average Joe isn't applying to work at the FBI.
My point is that there is less incentive for young people to keep their score high. The main reason used to be qualifying for a mortgage, so if young people don't have realistic goals of buying a house in the next 5-10 years, the system starts looking awfully shaky.
@Bad_Banner@blaaablaaaa@InceptionState It's because credit score is a shockingly accurate predictor of how reliable a person you are. Insurance companies, bank loan officers, Wall Street startup investors, and federal security clearance investigators use it too.
Young people typically have bad scores anyway. If the Fed is going to start tanking their scores and changing its predictive value, the system is screwed more than anyone realizes.
@blaaablaaaa@InceptionState It's not just what house you can get, but it also affects whether you're able to get a loan, get a bank account, or services from any financial institution.
It showcases to these institutions how reliable you are with paying off some of your debt, and if you're not reliable, then you slowly stop getting accesses to these services.
@blaaablaaaa@Bad_Banner They don't want you to know this, but bankruptcy is free. I have 143 unpaid credit card bills.
Seriously though a lot of young people will just go "fuck it, I'm not buying a house anytime in the next 10 years, might as well run up the CC bill and do Chapter 7". The entire threat is based on a number that is largely meaningless to people outside of mortgage applications.
Yeah good point, that threat of your made up number we assign to you that impacts your ability to get a house isn't much of a threat when they never forsee themselves getting a house.
@blaaablaaaa@Bad_Banner@InceptionState@PunishedD It makes me wonder if anyone even thinks about God, eternity, the finiteness and yet importance of this life, that kind of thing, or if it's just eat hot chip and lie at this point.
I think this is true, look at the euthanasia in Canada and other countries, they'll normalize it and make that acceptable. The current material and worldly mindset and worldview doesn't have the proper answer for why not to.
@victor@blaaablaaaa@InceptionState@PunishedD You can be religious and what not, that's fine, but people are hurting and need a solution right now and some sort of assurance for their future, not just after they're dead.
If one doesn't believe in God or any sort of afterlife, then what difference does it make whether they live a good, long life or die early? The end is the same either way.
@victor@blaaablaaaa@InceptionState@PunishedD Is God going to help pay for bills, get someone a house, a car, and financial stability? Because that's what people are needing right now.
But for the meek, it gives them a strength to carry on, knowing that one day God will make all wrongs right. Call it a cope if you like.
In the meantime, many of God's people choose to give significant portions of their income (which belongs to the God who enabled them to earn that money in the first place) directly to those in need.
@akariposter@blaaablaaaa@Bad_Banner@InceptionState@PunishedD Usually people with this mindset are younger and haven't really had to come to grips with death as an inevitability yet. It's not that they think they'll live in this life forever, it's that they just haven't really had to confront the fact that it will come to an end one day no matter how "good" or "bad" they are.
Four possibilities about an afterlife (that is affected by the actions/beliefs in this life):
You don’t believe, and you are correct
You don’t believe, and you are incorrect
You do believe, and you are correct
You do believe, and you are incorrect
From a pragmatic, r/agnostic-tier standpoint, each of these has the same probability of being the case.
Options 1) and 4) lead to the same thing–the eternal nothingness that atheist/nihilist faggots really, really seem to hope is the case for some reason. So if there’s no afterlife, then whether you believe or not, it doesn’t matter–into the void you go, and on the infinite timescale, it’s like you never even existed and nothing you thought or did mattered.
However, option 2) has far worse implications and option 3) has far better implications than the others, and this is where it gets interesting. If you obstinately choose not to believe, and you live your life accordingly, then you’re in big trouble–condemnation awaits. Likewise, if you choose to believe (and live accordingly), then you are rewarded and can enjoy eternal life, something we can’t really comprehend in this mortal form.
So to boil it down, you can either believe and have a 50/50 of nothingness or eternal life, or you can not believe and have a 50/50 of nothingness or eternal condemnation.
Of course, it’s really not that simple when it comes down to it. In the end, this life is a test of the soul, and God decides what to do with each individual afterward. (Or maybe it’s just a fairytale, but is that risk really worth taking?)
@Bad_Banner@victor@blaaablaaaa@InceptionState@PunishedD Just remember that this is a racist anime CHRISTIAN shitposting site and you're on thin ice. If you're not worshipping the one God that says the Jews are evil then I don't know what you're doing.
