Several of you have suggested that Canada’s Broadcaster, the CBC, should follow the BBC’s lead and set up its own Mastodon server. To further this idea, I’ve written the following letter to CBC President Catherine Tait. Feel free to use the letter as a template if you would like to do the same. She does not appear to have a public email address, but you can reach her by using the CBC’s contact form: https://cbc.radio-canada.ca/en/contact-us #Media#Journalism#BBC#CBC#Mastodon
@ned@jd unfortunately the #CBC along with the major Canadian broadcasters & publications still rely very much on #Twitter for their social media engagement.
Unfortunately this also extends to many government accounts. There was talk back during the #TwitterMigration with some federal employees to see if we can get some momentum to get the fed gov't to have a presence on the #fediverse but that went nowhere. There appears to be more appetite for this in Europe instead...
@deltatux@ned I think the Dutch government has indicated it will move to the fediverse. Haven’t heard of others. But that was very recent, so we may find others will follow.
@jd I'll never forget this. How Poilievre, officially thorough the Conservative Party of Canada, colluded with a multi-billionaire in the U.S. to discredit our publicly-owned National institutions in Canada. I can't believe the #CBC would forget so easily.
Did CBC return to X, after Pierre Poilievre told Elon Musk to label them as "state media", then when Musk did that Poilievre went on to brag that "Now the world knows that the CBC is Trudeau Propaganda!", and the CBC disabled their account on Twitter?
If they returned to that hell hole, I am very disappointed. :(
