Letter text: Catherine Tait, President and CEO, CBC/Radio Canada August 1, 2023 I am writing to you because, as a matter of some urgency, CBC/Radio Canada needs to reconsider its practice of using the social media platform X, previously Twitter, to deliver messages and communications to the public. Since its change of ownership in October 2022, the platform has become an unreliable media outlet, subject to the increasingly bizarre and unpredictable whims of its owner. Many of CBC/Radio Canada's communications through social media are of critical importance to Canadians. As such, they require a stable, reliable social media platform. X no longer can be considered as such. . . . Time to bail out. We note that the Washington Post and your sister organization, the BBC, among many others, are investigating the use of Mastodon as an alternative social media platform. We urge you to do the same. Mastodon, as a federated platform, is not under the control of any single individual or corporation. Indeed, under its structure, the CBC/Radio Canada can operate its own social media server snd thus maintain complete control over its social media platform. I urge you to investigate this further as a matter of some urgency. Sincerely, John Davidson
