If the image is obnoxiously tall there is no limit now on the how it disrupts the feed version.
Edit: Can't take it anymore. Have deleted the tall image. If you want to see it check out @feditips post

I don't know if that applies any more, the new version of Mastodon on mastodon.social removes the limits everywhere AFAIK.

@mastodonmigration @feditips Yeah, the link embed alone on this post is pretty disruptive. I had to zoom out to 60% to view it all without scrolling, and 50% to take this screenshot properly with Firefox.
No hard feelings for this ofc, if anything it proves the point even more haha

He removed the cropping on Mastodon so pictures are displayed at full height and full width. This means if a picture is very tall, it totally dominates the timeline and you have to scroll many many times just to get past it.

@feditips @flit This definitely underscores the difficulty of releasing new features in production code. Testing will never find all the the edge cases. So there needs to be a rapid response to addressing the crazy things that users do. Eugen will sort it out, but this is certainly a teachable moment for those who say: "Why don't you just do this or that...". Production software is hard.
