      I hope you're prepared for a major sea change

      ATX12VO is on its way too, so power supplies will only have 12V rails and the motherboards must step down the 5V and 3V itself

      agreed, we should have done it a long time ago. Just annoying that we waited so long and for the industry to grow so big first


      I'm looking forward to building machines with much better airflow as a result...

      @feld in a way this makes sense. DC to DC conversion is so efficient and compact now, putting it on the board where power is needed is sensible.

      @feld @zorinlynx I wonder if this could be a problem since we’re moving a point of hardware failure from the PSU to the motherboard… but on the other hand there’s still a lot of other things that could potentially fail on the motherboard…
