     @skylar @jeff @mischievoustomato Fun enough the policy of the linux kernel is “DO NOT BREAK USERSPACE” the ones breaking userspace are usually other projects like gnome (they also love to add security vulns), gnu and even systemd.

     that sounds cool, and i guess for people this is a good thing, but i honestly don't mind using .config/.cache/.local and friends. I have been reading about systemd-homed and it seems kino because of the encryption feature. My laptop never leaves my house, and won't anytime soon, so when I have more energy i'll move to it, nixOS already has basic support (enabling it and its dependencies) for it so it's all kino. What distro are you on btw?

     @mischievoustomato debian stable. systemd-homed is all about providing knobs to do cool shit like encryption or multi profile setups where you have multiple .config/ directories you want to isolate.

     @mischievoustomato networkd is better by virtue of network manager setting the bar so low that even ifupdown is better. homed is meant to expose a dbus api for managing where config files are what data dirs are used, letting you swap out entire profiles of dotfiles and data/cache directoreies, more knobs that are useful to those who want to make the developing software for desktop linux not a fucking nightmare
