kaia (kaia@brotka.st)'s status on Saturday, 08-Jul-2023 16:15:11 JST kaia professor asked me to work in a group with a student ("Erin") the week after next, since no other student wanted to.
Erin is very nice, pretty and has an agreeable character. but she'll not listen to anything you have to say, because she thinks she's way smarter. it's an interesting combination not seen too often in women, but it leads to her having zero real friends and nobody who wants to work with her.
I expect this "group work" to be her telling me what to do where she takes the main part and I get to do some menial side part. I don't get graded for this, since I already did it in the past, and do it because the prof asked me to. but it will be interesting to see how she treats me.
I'll try something to stop make her feel needing to "top" me, but I don't think it'll work at all.-

elicin (elicin@annihilation.social)'s status on Saturday, 08-Jul-2023 16:18:57 JST elicin Would be interesting to see whether you can turn the experience into a teaching moment for her. Could be a good way to apply the skills you've acquired in psychology and put them to practice by helping her naturally come to that same conclusion. -

kaia (kaia@brotka.st)'s status on Saturday, 08-Jul-2023 16:18:57 JST kaia @elicin that would only work if she's listen and value my input, but if the information highway is a one-way street with her sending and intentionally not receiving, it might be tricky :ChenShrug: -

iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Saturday, 08-Jul-2023 16:27:00 JST iced depresso @kaia hm reminds me of some studies about students that were told they were smart tend to be worse at puzzles than the ones that are not. this does not mean they were abused though. one group was praised constantly and the other was encouraged to try harder. that group ended up more likely to solve puzzles while the "smart" kids applied to them less.
although i guess its worth checking for ASD too. sometimes we actually just are smarter and are not humble about it :neofox_laugh:kaia likes this. -

lexihexi@smashingly.gay's status on Saturday, 08-Jul-2023 16:27:11 JST lexihexi @kaia very interesting indeed. This person could possibly profit a lot from learning that it’s ok to make mistakes and improve.

kaia (kaia@brotka.st)'s status on Saturday, 08-Jul-2023 16:28:21 JST kaia @icedquinn I don't think it's ASD since she lacks the other characteristics, but she could just be extremely good at acting.
yeah, telling your kid constantly it's very smart might do this :jelsweat: -
