   So i was curious and peeked at the App Store listing for Threads, an Instagram App and holy crap they want a lot of data. I looked at Firefox, a whole-ass web browser, and whew that’s a difference

     I guess a better apples-to-apples comparison would be the official Mastodon app. Or how about Ivory for Mastodon by Tapbots. Or maybe Toot! for Mastodon. Or maybe Ice Cubes for Mastodon. I’m sure I’m missing something

     @thomasfuchs @lmorchard Sure. Mastodon is effectively 100% public. It also doesn't have access to my fitness data, purchases, location, and contacts. All of which Les's screenshot shows.

     @thomasfuchs @lmorchard I don't see any evidence of that. Granted I'm not on iOS, and won't touch anything Meta makes, so I can't see that for myself. I have very little faith in Meta not taking all the data they can get their hands on.
