   @Sveinbjorn @litherland Recommend following @feditips it’s a great way to get started. I have found likeminded music and vinyl enthusiasts, but I’m on the fence about joining a specific instance since my tastes are broad, y’know?

     Oh maaaaaan, I didnt even have to write that out! It was already there!

     Typo.social is an immense privelege, not a given, not everyone gets one of these, for their given interest. It’s rare and beautiful.

     I really, deeply wish there were other spots on masto for music production or vinyl digging, other hobbies of mine.

     There may be such places, but they are probably under-publicised, like we are.

     Not an option presented during onboarding.

     @soundclamp @litherland this. I joined a few times, but I never managed to stick until typo.social happened.

     “Don’t say it’s hard” is absolutely not the answer. Denying the problem doesn’t solve it.

     I even googled to find something to follow. No decent articles mentioned anything good. Masto is not very open or friendly. Bluesky is way better built for noobs.

     Lots can be done to make it fun and accessible for the masses.

     But nobody wants to do it.

     @litherland I might be wrong, but it seems like “hard to join” is more of a shorthand for saying “it’s hard to rebuild or even just build a network of friends once here”. I’ve noticed it with certain people I used to be mutuals. They struggled to adapt when their old ways of reaching an audience didn’t work, or they got hall monitored, or worse harassed, and they just gave up. That lack of universal welcoming and stickiness is a legitimate problem.
