     @eris tumblr has yet to actually integrate w/ activitypub yet, so if nothing else I hope it will be interesting see what happens to the whole ecosystem following the arrival of a huge corporate entity.

     @eris Oh 100%, they just want to capitalise on the need for a new microblog platform.

     Personally, I think Threads being successful would make Meta way too much of a monopoly in the social media space (even putting aside the privacy/data collection issues). But then, what viable alternative is there for normies really?
     As much as I wish everyone would just move to Fedi, it doesn't really make sense for creators who need to make a living

     @oshy @firalia @animeirl that's what im saying though, there's two clashing goals here
     
     on one hand we do want to decentralize social media and that has to happen by moving the userbase over here or another decentralized platform (which is happening on its own regardless and isnt something we can stop), and in such a competitive way that efforts like Threads don't seek to own and monopolize even a decentralized space
     
     on the other hand, we who enjoy fedi as it is don't want it to change or expand (but this is IMO a fool's request because again, that's happening regardless)

     Fedi is so good because it's niche rn & I can meet other weirdos like me on here. If it becomes twitter 2 it loses everything special it had, at least for me
