@billgoats @mwichary the Y and special chars are because it’s using German layout (but English labels for whatever reason!)

What’s the rest of this keyboard like‽
@recursive @pjohanneson @mwichary oddly enough this wasn’t the case for O and 0 though
@pjohanneson @thomasfuchs @mwichary I remember seeing an old mechanical typewriter as a kid and asking my parents "Where's the '1'?" As someone who knew these were semantically different things, having already typed a program or two into BASIC, I was kind of horrified by the answer
@thomasfuchs @mwichary [pushes glasses up nose] super old keyboards didn't have a 1, you were supposed to use the lowercase l b/c they looked the same
@0x0ddc0ffee @mwichary That makes complete sense, but it’s at the same time one of those things when hipsters take something old-fashioned and elevate it to be the cool thing.
@thomasfuchs @mwichary I don't think the Control/Caps Lock thing has much to do with being a keyboard nerd, but rather, those who've spent many years using a Unix layout keyboard, like a Sun Type 4 or 5, or any of numerous glass tty keyboards from a 20 year period.
@0x0ddc0ffee @mwichary (IMO it’s just a personal preference, like so many things about keyboards are!)
