   Just a heads-up, the iPhone/iPad app Metatext is no longer being maintained. The lead developer had to take a break due to health issues.

   If you want a good iPhone/iPad Mastodon app, try Toot! (more info: https://fedi.tips/toot-for-iphone-ipad/) or Ice Cubes (more info: https://fedi.tips/ice-cubes-for-iphone-ipad/) or Ivory or one of many other nice Mastodon apps now available.

   Metatext may still come back in some form, community developers are currently testing a new fork, but it's not quite ready yet.

     Tusky is great! I did a roundup of it at https://fedi.tips/tusky-for-android/ Definitely recommend it for Android.

     However, everyone has different tastes and needs, you might also want to try Fedilab, Tooot (not related to Toot!) or Subway Tooter?

     Lots and lots and lots of options, for lots of platforms.

     Thanks to open source, even the official app has unofficial forks you can use instead, which are maintained by different people.

     And many of the third party options pre-date the official app, there used to be no official app at all on here 😀

     Originally Mastodon didn't have an official app, everyone used third party apps like Tusky and Toot!

     The official app was only introduced last year, and it was missing a lot of important features because it was intended as a sort of "Fisher Price My First Mastodon" kind of experience.

     The third party apps have a lot more care and attention paid to them, and some have been developed for longer.

     Also, due to the open standards on here, official apps have no special privileges.

     @feditips literally just joined Mastodon so noob question: why not the official app for iOS? Is it like an Apollo vs. Reddit thing, where the third-party offers a better UX?

     @feditips Yeah, that has been the case for a while. Unfortunately no mastodon apps out there are as complete as Metatext is :(

     I’ll just keep using it until the fork is released or something
