They store the keys in the hangar usually and don't mind if you borrow them as long as you bring them back with a full tank of avgas. -

Here is the question pool:
https://www.arrl.org/question-pools
(You want the Technician pool...That's the intro level license)
Read through the questions once or twice, and try to remember the answers.
Next, go to https://eham.net/exams and pick the Technician practice exam. Take it over and over until you consistently get around 80-85% or more.
Then find a test in your area: https://www.arrl.org/find-an-amateur-radio-license-exam-session (in-person is probably better)
Once you pass the test, you'll get a callsign. You'll learn more about that as you study.
Get yourself a starter radio. If you're on a budget, get the Baofeng UV-5R off Amazon. Don't worry about what specific submodel, just get the one with the most reviews. If you want something nicer, get a Yaesu FT-70DR or do some research for a radio that has features you want if you really care. -

That sounds like something I need to look into but just don't have a clue where to start. In conversation permalink
