      We got a HEPA filter for my spouse’s office & my kid’s classroom, both are home for the summer, and we already had two, so…we now have •four• HEPA filters going full blast in the house. My particle counter says they’re reducing ≤0.5µm airborne particles vs outdoors by a factor of 14. I mean…14x! We’re very fortunate! But I like being outside in the summer. Also, it’s really loud in here.

      This whole climate crisis thing is some dystopian bullshit.

      @bleistifterin
      It’s one filter for the whole room, one of these:
      https://www.winixamerica.com/product/5500-2/

      We also have the predecessor of this one at home; can recommend: https://www.winixamerica.com/product/d360/

      Both are cheaper from 3rd parties instead of direct from Winix.

      With all these, ignore the putative “room size;” the CADR (clean air delivery rate) is the stat to look for.

      @inthehands may I ask - the HePa for the kid's class room -- what size is that? Because I imagine if all kids bring a normal sized filter that would probably overkill. But if it is a cup size portable - what use are those?
      (Thinking about getting one for long train rides that are coming up, but can't find studies if they are useful for more than alleviating cigarette smoke in cars...

      @bleistifterin
      My inexpert guess is that one of those is going to be more or less useless in any space larger than a closet, and you’ll get far more benefit from an N95 mask.

      (Its CADR is ~20x lower than the HEPA filters I linked to above.)

      @inthehands thank you, that clears it up.

      We have one room sized in the bedroom because of allergies. (Xiaomi )
      But was wondering about getting a reasonable solution for travelling to minimize covid/ Flu/ viral infections.
