@ultem some people (like @shebang) like the ModMic. it's a microphone that is installable on any headphone and i think it comes with a USB version. I don't use one.

Blue Yeti or Blue Yeti Pro is (was?) the standard for professional YouTube. Not sure if that has changed in recent years. well within ~500$.
I have the non-pro and it works fine. What I actually use nowadays is a Behringer C-2 connected to a Behringer U-Phoria. I got these from e-bay and i think the total is like <100$ but it also needs a microphone stand to hold it which can be some more (i already had that.)
the yeti is an easy plug and play and it has multiple "modes" you can set if you just want it to be in a room and pick everything up or just the stuff in front (ex. in front of the speakers, in directional mode, you may get away with a VOIP conference without headphones and the sound won't get recorded in the mic unless it bounces off the room.)
the C-2 is technically an XLR mic for drum kits. so it's intended to be smushed right up against what its recording. if you can put it on a mic stand and hold it close to your mouth then it will not pick up much in the way of room noises. i used one to voice conference while someone was watching TV; the tv noise was well low enough to be controlled by a noise gate.

Hey @icedquinn , Kaia suggested I ask you since you are knowledgeable about audio.
Would you have a recommendation for a USB desk microphone for semi-professional voice recordings, like YouTube? Price maybe up to $500? Or maybe you know where I should check for ideas and reviews?
Thank you!
