    @P Hey, pee.

    Distro question.

    If I want something in the vein of Arch in the do it yourself, no hand holdy, nothing you don’t need unless you want to install it yourself way

    But without the systemd and without the three computer bricking updates every day

    What do you recommend looking at

      @p@freespeechextremist.com @mistermonster@firebird.zone @Shigure@freespeechextremist.com umm excuse me ? its actually a clone of minix that was a minimal clone of unix, that grew out of control and became a bloated mess ?

      @mistermonster @Shigure If I didn't like Unix, I probably wouldn't like Plan 9. Linux is large, bloated, terrible; it is a clone of a clone of v7 Unix and POSIX is a complete shit, gcc is awful, glibc is awful, dynamic linking is awful, the kernel is the only good part of Linux and it has been awful since some time around 3.x, most distros are worse than regular POSIX because they have attempted to become desktop systems instead of workstations, sound worked great for about ten years and then PulseAudio and DBus fucked it all up (don't get me started on systemd, incidentally written by the same asshole that wrote PulseAudio and DBus), every distro fucks up by making it a pain to get the source, the entire thing is a completely fucked mess, why are we still using numeric UIDs, why is there still a root user, why can non-root users still not open ports <1024, why does ping still have to be suid, why didn't we kill ioctl() yet, why does the kernel keep getting bigger, why does the C compiler keep getting bigger, why did they put emoji rendering into pangocairo instead of fixing the segfaults, why do people want to talk about distros, etc. I could go on or I could elaborate on any of those points, but I won't and I won't argue any of it. No good will ever come from Linux again, it's dead to me.

      :dmr: "Unix has retarded operating systems research by ten years, Linux by another twenty." :dmr:

      You've probably been over this a zillion times but I have to ask, what is it about Linux? Do you not like Unix in general? Or is it Linux specifically?

      @Shigure @mistermonster I like Plan 9 but I still have to run Linux for Linux stuff. Linux is my Windows now.

      @mistermonster @Shigure I do not like either of them, and I very much dislike Nix, but as I said:

      > I'm not really a distro guy

      In the end, it's all Linux, it's 99% fluoride by volume. CRUX and Slackware are tolerable (for now).

      @Shigure I'm not really a distro guy, but there are two Linux distros that I can tolerate: slackware.com and crux.nu. Slackware's a little bloated compared to CRUX, but they're both usable. (For a desktop/laptop system, you'll probably wanna run Slackware-current, and I recommend adding slackrepo to automate the process of fetching and installing slackbuild packages. CRUX comes with a ports system so it's not really necessary.)

      @a7 @mistermonster @Shigure Andy would *hate* to hear it called a clone of Minix.
