   @shibao @shibao this is what has happened to a bunch of people and they've written off the fediverse entirely.
   
   Actually, a few of Baest's users came from instances like those. They seemed like cool people so I hoped on an alt to explain why things are the way they are and that there's a whole fun side of the fediverse they can't even see.
   
   Most moved to either my instance or another one on this side of fedi and have been having fun ever since.
   
   A lot said they had read about the fediverse and wanted to check it out and were about to give it up because it was boring and super woke until I came along and they discovered the fun side of fedi.

     @shibao @shibao yee mastodon is pretty much the only one ever talked about. 95+% of mastodon instances subscribe to a pretty much standardized instance block list. Ergo new people who only know about mastodon will never see any fun stuff, only woke stuff, and they won't even know the fun stuff exists.
     
     I was lucky in that I knew about Mastodon from pawoo. I made an account on pawoo and played with it for a few minutes and decided to spin up my own and see if I could find English speakers. I figured I'd get board with it within a week or two and I'd move on to something else.
     
     Here I am over 4 years later still hosting it. Except now I have around $3k worth of computer equipment just for hosting it. I also have a Cornbread that fedi helped me afford to take in which I'm eternally grateful for.

     my favorite part is how half are minors. The kids really aren't alright, instead of playing Runescape and Halo Custom Edition or CS1.6 they're out there ebegging to move out (my dad's a bitch fund).

     Yep, someone I knew who was mentally broken tried Mastodon in the early days as a hip trendy Twitter alternative.
     
     In just a few months he had new pronouns and not long afterwards he ditched his family. True story.
