     @alexshendi @Eka_FOOF_A @ct_bergstrom The AI singularity is horseshit. Warmed-over Christian apocalpse horseshit (minus the God/Jesus nonsense). Roko's Basilisk should be the final clue: it emerges logically from the whole farrago of nonsense but it boils down to AI Satan punishing the acausal infidels for their AI original sin. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it's a duck: or in this case, a Christian heresy.

     @cstross @alexshendi @ct_bergstrom I see the AI Singularity to be something that will happen eventually, but current #AI (Artificial Idiots) lack reasoning ability, and they are badly infected with bad data. GIGO (Garbage In, Garbage Out).

     @Eka_FOOF_A The capitalist occupies a specific (class) position in a capitalist society, which entails being subject to certain structural pressures and incentives. _A_ capitalist may act in a lot of different ways, but _capital_ will respond to those pressures and incentives, because to do otherwise will lead to failure and dispossession under capitalism. @MSchnetker @cstross @alexshendi @ct_bergstrom

     That thing that has no ethics, doesn't care about life or the environment and controls manufacturing is called capital. It is literally the paperclip maximizer. It was created about 250 years ago and Karl Marx wrote a book about it. And it is destroying the planet (or at least the ecological foundations of human society) right now.
