Can someone with a law degree please explain to me in simple terms what it matters if that guy knew if stealing national secrets is illegal?
Also, can I use “didn't know that there were speed limits” as defense for my speeding ticket?

@maarteuh I’m not asking about we he said or claimed, I’m asking about what difference it makes for the law (if any).
@thomasfuchs he said he knew they were secret and he should not have them to that journalist right?
@maarteuh my question is literally “does intentionality matter”, why would you need to prove that? is it not enough to prove that he stole the documents?
@thomasfuchs sorry now get it...don't know but at least think the admittance is going to make it easier to prove the intentionallaty (?) of it
@maarteuh maybe? That’s why I’d love someone with a law degree explain it. :)
@thomasfuchs could he raise doubt that they slipped on with non secret ones?
