     @truxnell Centralized social media is over. I think we could fulfill the Reddit need by creating a section to browse popular links posted by users. I think Fedi/Nostr will win. Nostr will eventually be the better option.

     It will take time to get the general crowd but I'm also not convinced it *needs* to be everything for everyone. I'm also not convinced we need a specific, seperate design as a 'link aggregator' as really Reddit turned into more a 'set of posts/replies in a certain topic' which seems like it could be handled with the toolset we apear to have today.
     You've convinced me to look into Nostr harder.

     I settled on soapbox despite the harrowing claims of Alex online, and figured I'd also for to 'see for myself' and follow him.
     
     So far, having his opinions/shitposting in my timeline and software in my cluster hasn't actually murdered my family, burnt down my house or ruined my credit rating - is almost like echo chambers aren't always right?

     Also there are only complaints about lemmy.
     
     Choose kbin if you don't want to deal with that.
     Lotide won't be a good option unless you like everything stripped to bare necessities.

     There are other options like discourse as it has an activitypub plugin but it's not perfect by any means.

     I'm looking into those three but already started coming across the 'Oh don't use X because devs support Y' which Im getting tired off.
     I expect ill spin one up for a play around soon though.

     Alex is a good guy who also happens to have a sense of humor and some opinions that don't match the current dogma. That makes him actually interesting instead of an NPC.

     The people who hate on him are the kinds of people I wouldn't wanna hang out with IRL in any case.
