   Posts on here have several different visibility modes. You can set it by clicking on the visibility icon at the bottom of a post, which looks different depending on which mode it is in.

   🌎 is public, everyone can see it

   🔒 or 👥 is followers-only, only your followers can see it

   @ is mentions-only, only accounts mentioned within the post can see it

   To send a DM, set the post to mentions-only and then @ the receipients.

     If you're comfortable using github, you can vote for end-to-end encrypted messages by giving a thumbs up at https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/19565

     About admins viewing posts, there is nothing in the Mastodon interface that allows this. In theory admins could look at the database directly, but this requires tech skills and time, and isn't a feature of Mastodon itself.

     can we please get "private message" inplemented soon? it's soo creepy to write someone "only visable to you and your conversation partner" then suddenly there is a thrid person, who think my writing is creepy.

     this can be a mod an admin of any instance for their instance. pretty whag for a community project use mostly by people who care about privacy.
