   But where were these defenders of free speech when less appetising people were being banned or harassed on campus? Everyone from hard-right types to perfectly normal people who support the state of Israel to critics of Islamist theocracy have been no-platformed in recent years. And, often, there’s just been shoe staring from supposed liberals.

   To defend liberty, it is not enough to challenge instances of censorship – we must confront the entire logic of censorship. We must reject the idea that it is ever acceptable to crush speech in the name of protecting feelings. It was the elite’s failures on that front that paved the way for the demonisation of Stock as a moral transgressor whose hurtful views should be silenced.

     @Cousin_Isobel @Flick Religion's role was to hold the society together (read give small consolation and prevent rebellions by teaching people the virtues of owning nothing and being happy) after the society was slaughtered by expropriation and industrial slave-olution.
     I think ACTUALLY genderism does something similar. While it's real purpose is an attack on women (just like christianity was an attack on rebels) it gives the hope of "salvation" in the form of transition and the feeling of living in a blessed (progressive) time.

     @Flick This is all so much like the anti-evolution movement of the 20th century. In a way, it’s worse, because the fiction it’s trying to install can’t even be argued to serve the function of holding society together, as Christianity had done. It’s otherwise so much the same: to tell the truth is dangerous and blasphemous, it must not be said that humans came into being through natural, evolutionary means, listen to the holy men, have the faith of a child, etc.
