@hagbard@klausfiend@springdiesel@mekkaokereke@longobord yeah, I'm also a burnt-out former "gifted" kid & the gifted programs I was in early on definitely didn't help. I just don't think it's productive to label kids that way. Plus, I think the general vagueness of the label is part of the reason it gets overapplied to white kids and not given to Black kids. It's better to say "this kid scores well on tests but always forgets her homework" or "this kid should be in a more advanced math class"
@springdiesel@sofiav@mekkaokereke@longobord ugh, this is the story of way too many "smart" kids: breeze through stuff that's believed to be hard, then get frustrated and burn out on stuff that actually challenges you because it turns out you were never given the tools to deal with that.
