Over the past year, the Fediverse’s Overton window has shifted drastically.

A year ago, my Ricardian socialist sensibilities were considered too “right wing” for many. I’m not anti-corporation. I just think most of them should be converted to co-ops.

Flash forward to now. Some folks are practically thirsting for a “benevolent” billionaire to set up shop on the Fediverse.

@davidgarywood@social.davidgarywood.com Not only do they have faith in corporate-run social media, folks on #Bluesky are actively trying to discourage federation despite knowing that Bluesky exists to be federated.

@atomicpoet I hadn’t realised just how strong some folks faith was in corporate run social media, and centralised systems, despite what we’ve seen in the last year with Twitter and Musk.

@atomicpoet any folks in that position, simply want Twitter without Elon 😅

I mean, “you do you” as the COVID minimisers like to say, but…. It seems like massively missing the point to me

@davidgarywood@social.davidgarywood.com @jeff@indieweb.social Yep, that and “I just want pre-Elon Twitter.”

@jeff @atomicpoet I’m guessing a desire to keep things to a small circle, or believing it’s centralisation keeps it simple and easier to adopt?

@atomicpoet @davidgarywood What are the reasons they’re citing for this position?

@atomicpoet @jeff pretty much yes, which, I can understand and even relate to in some ways, but yet, here we are 😀
