   @cdevroe Just remember, OpenAI saves the data, and uses all the prompts and responses ChatGPT has access to, and generates, to directly train its future models. This is why Companies are blocking ChatGPT left and right. People are literally handing over trade secrets and intellectual property to OpenAI left and right when they use ChatGPT.

     I'd not seen that they have different terms API vs "the web interface", but it clearly states you can turn off training

     @feld @cdevroe They don’t use the data when you pay for API access but they most certainly do when you use ChatGPT.

     Source: I pay for ChatGPT+ and I pay for API access. I’ve read both of the agreements, man.

     @feld @cdevroe @gme as a customer myself, I would assume anything you send to them will be used - on purpose or “by accident”. Their controls haven’t been externally audited, and their platform is very immature in terms of admin controls.

     @feld @cdevroe yeah they have this thing where you can tell it not to save your chats and delete your history but It's cumbersome at best and they still can keep the chats for like 30 days and personally I wouldn't trust them But yeah they had to enable that to comply with GDPR but let's be honest how many people a are going to turn that on and b know that having their chat histories saved means that open AI will use the content to train its models
