Have you tried your server's Local timeline yet? 🥳
On a huge server Local is a mess, but on smaller servers it can be really fun and friendly. It's especially good on servers with a particular theme.
If you're using Masto's official app, click the magnifying glass 🔍 and then the Community tab. This is your server's Local timeline.
If you're using a web browser, click on "Local" or 👥 at the right of the screen.
Third party apps will also have their own interface to access Local.

p.s. You can see a server's Local feed by going to its website and clicking on "Local" or 👥 . You don't need to be logged in or a member.
Some third party apps such as Fedilab and Subway Tooter on Android or Ice Cubes on iPhone/iPad let you follow other servers' Local feeds, though of course you need to be a member of the server to contribute to the feed.

It's all the public posts from people on that server.
What this is depends on which server you are on.
On servers with a good sense of community, usually the smaller ones, there will be a good atmosphere on such a feed.
On servers with no sense of community, usually the massive ones, therre will just be a random list of local posts.

You can reply to posts in Local, and your reply will be in the thread associated with that post, but your reply won't appear in the Local feed.

@feditips "you need to be a member of the server to contribute to the feed" except for commenting. I have commented some toots in other servers local feeds that I have added in Ice Cubes. Although, I think, it is possible if the post is public. The othe way around is to copy the link of the post you want to comment on another server, search it in your server and then you can comment.

@feditips I imagine local timelines are actually fun on the smaller servers, instead of an exercise in watching incompetent people promote pointless businesses.
It's hilarious to watch the American spam turn into Asian spam turn into Euro spam as the day progresses.
