@atomicpoet@kainoa@freeplay@disc@misskey.io@ariadne@social.treehouse.systems Basically, the solution could be a combination of both suggestions: Have "automatically play animated mfm" disabled by default, but explain what it is and give the option to enable it during the tutorial that new users see. This way, if someone skips it, they will still be protected. If they read the tutorial, they can enable autoplay to have the current default behaviour. Everybody happy =)
We already have a tutorial, and experience has shown that many people skip it. If we keep adding more, the chances of them being skipped altogether are higher.
What I suggested doesn't "disable" MFM animations, it just prompts you to click play to view them. Then you'd be able to go to settings and change that to autoplay, if you prefer it that way - or to completely disable it. It would be enabled by default, just not animated without an action from the user.
@atomicpoet@kainoa@freeplay@disc@misskey.io@ariadne@social.treehouse.systems Alright, here's an idea. I don't agree that "Disable MFM with animation" should be enabled by default. However, maybe we could add another toggle, saying "Play MFM with animation automatically", and that could be turned off by default. When off, it would display a "play" button, and you'd have to press it for the mfm animation to play. Like GIFs not autoplaying, for example.
