   it should be needless to say but I'm always against deplatforming, no matter who it is and how many feefees were hurt. it only opens the door for more of it, and because I exist on many corners of the internet outside of the normiesphere my turn will come sooner or later if it escalates. it's never "just this one time."

     @sampo It's not "deplatforming", it's "we don't want to work with you". They can keep hosting their stuff, they have alternatives like Onion services, I2P, etc.
     
     But, when it comes to companies, services are an exchanges. Reputation is at play. If the service provider is loosing too much, then of course, they won't want to work with that client. The service providers have nothing to gain in this case, only many things to lose, and well, that's how it works, they're businesses, not charities.
     
     It's not necessary to use them to run something on the Internet, but if you're so vile that no one wants to work with you no matter the money involved, I don't believe you can claim it's "deplatforming". There are alternatives out there. Cloudflare and others just sell convenience against a fee.

     @icedquinn @sampo @emilis trying to say it's "cancel culture" is telling me you don't know anything about KF and never looked into it yourself, and this all makes it sound very despicable, I'm afraid. Kiwifarms existed at first as the sole reason for them to "enjoy themselves" by harassing Chris-chan; the forum was created for her and about her, its sole purpose was her at first. They extended it to others and it became more and more vile as time went on; the entire thing about them is harassing people for their entertainment. They don't have political opinions, they don't regard people for what they are; they're interested in harassment and the thrill of it. Does that sound like "cancel culture"?
     
     You don't have to believe me, after all, but saying it's "cancel culture" and "baseless" is ridiculous. It's not a "recent thing" against KF. It's been here for more than 6 years, and it kept getting worse and worse over the years. There's plenty of proof, plenty of cases, plenty to say that no, KF was never a good place, and was never meant to be. You can put your tinfoil hat if you want, but seriously, this is quite ridiculous. They've been doing terrible things for years, but at some point, with everyone you hurt, of course people are going unite to fight back. There's no big "conspiracy". No one wants them or wants to work with them, and for good reason. Saying it's fabricated because it's ridiculous sounds like your personal bias and refusing to believe that sometimes, things really are as they are.
     
     And as for why "they can’t be properly brought up on harassment charges", you wish it was that simple. Do you decide it's Kiwifarms or that it's not Kiwifarms, then? You can't both say "they should be charged for harassement" and "a few users is not the entire website".

     @emilis @sampo kinda the problem is that cancel culture is hard channeling the worst elements of humanity (mob justice, irrational response with no interest in investigations or is actively hostile to investigation, fascistic us vs them to the extreme) which is totally fine for the people in charge of everything right now but is actually kind of a huge problem overall :cirno_sip:

     they’re not even being put on a show trial for things they did they’re literally being punished for stuff that looks extremely false flaggy.

     we’re intended to believe that 1) they hate transexuals, yet 2) they tried to get the police to murder a congresscritter that is supposed to also be anti-trans, based on … some anonymous phone call that could have been anyone. that makes no sense considering MTG agrees with what we’re supposed to understand KF’s politics are. i could literally do a bomb threat right now from a pay phone and just say i’m from puff place. wouldn’t mean shit.

     then while actively encouraged to find an excuse to go after the site, they happen to exactly find one within a 20 minute window that it was available. from an account that has virtually zero activity on the site other than posting the perfectly gift wrapped threat they screenshot just in time to claim the forum was escalating violence.

     by the way it’s not the first time; the same people did that to 8chan. “suddenly” a schizopost appears, is deleted by mods within the hour, but all the relevant authorities miraculously got copies of it and did their little dances about how this one particular gift wrapped event was all the proof they needed :blobcatwaitwhat2: it’s literally the same fucking playbook over and over again.

     an incredibly cynical person might ask why if these places are so intolerably bad they can’t be properly brought up on harassment charges for things they did do and have to be star chambered using literally the thinnest possible evidence anyone could fabricate half asleep :blobcatglare2:

     Kiwi farms documents the public behaviour of exceptional individuals. If they didn’t say and do the things they do, it wouldn’t exist.
     
     Anyway, what you’re essentially saying is that you support censorship according to what private corporations deem to be acceptable speech. That’s.. an interesting opinion.
