@helene yeah idk how you would signal that info? it should be documented somewhere in the user or admin guide unless i missed it but otherwise you have no real capability flags for such
@trwnh any mention of it on docs.joinmastodon.org would be good, I think, but there isn't much about the Mastodon media proxy anywhere on the docs and I feel like that'd be important to mention those specifics (and that causes a lot of issues when other instance software can just attach any kind of file, like a PDF, and Mastodon will be confused, especially with image/video using some codecs and formats, and people won't understand why it breaks and there's nothing documenting it anywhere)
@helene its a bit scattered, for example https://docs.joinmastodon.org/admin/tootctl/#emoji mentions on the import command that 50kb is the limit, but yeah maybe having a central page for it would be better. idk where off the top of my head? maybe under specifications?
@helene i just remembered my branch/fork of the mastodocs i updated the activitypub page so i could add a mention of expectations for incoming media there?
@trwnh well, i don't know if that'd be the right place, as after all it's mostly about Mastodon choosing not to render it than altering activities based on that, but it does have an effect for posts coming from remote instances, so... but any mention of it would be appreciated, no matter the place in the docs, imo! (and how you decide to design the docs is up to you, as well)
