     They'll still pay to get ads in front of you. It will be through paying influencers who are pretending to share it organically.

     The greater Fediverse does need to come to some sort of consensus on acceptable ads and how to handle them... But personally I don't at all mind having corporate presences here for customer interaction. I don't even mind a company touting their products/services on their own timeline, or people sharing those posts organically. But I definitely am opposed to paid ad placements.

     I think it's fine if someone I follow really likes a product or service and wants to share info from them - word-of-mouth advertising, in essence - I just don't want companies to be able to pay to shove crap in my face like they can on Twitter.

     @feld I get that but... I primarily follow friends (and their friends) - not influencers. If someone I follow were to become a regular paid shill for random things, I most probably wouldn't be following them anymore.
