    • Csepp ?

    @csepp @khinsen there's probably 4 or 5 top-tier Lua implementations, and then there's more weird fringe ones like luerl for Erlang that aren't widely used enough to have the compatibility bugs shaken out

    but the Guile Lua one is I think the only one where they're just straight up said "yeah it works differently because we just decided we like our way better" vs incompatibilities which happen by mistake

    it's very different from all the various Clojure implementations where each implementer just picks and chooses for themselves what subset to bother with

      @technomancy @csepp @khinsen I haven’t used it yet, but @bogdanp has a `#lang lua` in Racket: https://docs.racket-lang.org/lua-manual@lua-lang/index.html

      One benefit is the ability to inter operate with other Racket languages.

      @LiberalArtist @technomancy @csepp @khinsen racket-lua is still missing some standard library things I haven't had time to implement yet (like packages, and Lua's flavour of pattern matching) and it needs a better table implementation (currently, it's just a Racket hash so "array" ops are slow). So, I definitely wouldn't call it a complete/top-tier implementation yet.

      @bogdanp @LiberalArtist @csepp @khinsen patterns could be tricky, but the package system can all be done in user-space; it's very easy to do once you have dofile and tables, definitely under 50 lines
