That's probably the 50th pretext for the invasion I'm hearing since February 2022, you seem to be able to catch up with all of them only by forgetting the previous ones?

And as usual it goes very much against the previous pretexts: Putin long argued Ukraine has no independence and is just part of Russia. All Russian propaganda apparatus reinforced exactly this message for the last 10 years or so.

One of the pretexts also goes like Russia did not guarantee anything in the Budapest Memorandum, so it could have done anything it liked (literally quoted here by @Max_Cope ), which directly contradicts what you postulated above.

Another one goes like there was no clearly defined border between Russia and Ukraine (outright lie).

Another one goes like Russia did not recognize Ukraine government after Yanukovych ran away to Moscow, but it's also a lie — Russia continued diplomatic relations with Ukraine and Putin literally met with Ukraine's president and signed agreements (he violated them but that was expected).

I can go for hours, Russian propaganda was quite creative with these pretexts...

Russia was also a signatory. So if it believed the west was interfering with Ukrainian independence via a puppet regime, it has assured that it would invade and remove that regime.

Quite the opposite. In 1994 Russia, US and UK signed a Budapest Memorandum, in which they recognized Ukraine's sovereignty and guaranteed its security when in voluntarily gave away it's nuclear warheads, carrier rockets and strategic bombers.

What US and UK are doing today is literally fulfilling their commitment from the Memorandum, as #Russia uses literally the same rockets received from Ukraine to attack it.

If US and UK fulfilled their duty in 2014, when Russia first attacked Ukraine in Crimea and Donbas, we wouldn't see the full scale war in 2022. If Ukraine was accepted into NATO back in 2000's with other Eastern European countries, we wouldn't see it either. Western inaction was literally what encouraged Putin to start the war, and if the West remained inactive in 2022, we would be just watching the largest genocide of history unrolled by Russia in Ukraine right now.

@kravietz @zoon @PawelK @DotardTed sounds about like the other side too. I’m anti war all day so not choosing sides. The US should not be involved there or NATO but it is. The US is fighting Russia on the backs of Ukraine to fuel the MIC economy to stave off the end of the dollar. Short of an all nuclear conflict they (US) knows it will take 50 years to bleed us out and Russia can’t go toe to toe for long, nor China.

You need to scrutinize your original Russian sources about that, not us. Onus probandi applies.

But no, as a principle they don't have a habit of providing even plausible evidence for their claims, which led to even #Russia war channels facepalming when Konashenkov boasted about destroying HIMARS, Bradleys and Leopards. The best you can get is a lame photoshopped "here's still frame from a kamikaze drone, full video tomorrow" which never arrives.
