     @SuperJerrBear81 @virtualbri @BlackAzizAnansi so someone I was talking to brought up a really good point, which is that some of this seems to be a clash between art culture and tech culture. Tech folks (especially here) are used to being fairly compensated and value open source, making your work free and accessible to everyone. Art folks have to fight for compensation, and would not stay in business long if they gave away their work for free.

     @alannawrites @virtualbri @BlackAzizAnansi I don't understand that line of thinking. Why shouldn't artists worry about their bottom line? How do people expect artists to pursue their passions without any monetary gain? We don't live in this perfect society where money doesn't matter. Are artists supposed to just starve?

     That rings very true to me. And the irony is that most of us artists, in some part of our heart of hearts, would really •like• to give our work away for free to everyone because more than anything we just want to share it — and having to charge for it, or think about money at all, is •already• a deeply painful thing even before the angry mob shows up to shame us for doing so.
