Charlie Owen (whalecoiner@indieweb.social)'s status on Thursday, 27-Apr-2023 08:11:29 JST Charlie Owen Bluesky absolutely nailed it by targeting the FOMO that runs right through the tech industry.
You could put “invite required” on a cheese sandwich and developers would be selling their grandmothers for access to it. 🙄

Frank T (franktaber@mas.to)'s status on Thursday, 27-Apr-2023 09:39:23 JST Frank T @thomasfuchs @dibi58 @whalecoiner The nature of the distinct Mastodon and Fediverse communities is the real difference and why I have no interest in BlueSky. There is something organic and real about the weirdness of beige.party and sauropods.win and normal about infosec.exchange and journa.host and real about mastodon.art. Each of those communities makes sense and has an identity that while fluid represents real user preferences in a way BlueSky would need a few years to replicate.

Frank T (franktaber@mas.to)'s status on Thursday, 27-Apr-2023 10:27:27 JST Frank T @thomasfuchs @dibi58 @whalecoiner Related to that is the realization that social network companies are providing almost no value. They may even be providing negative value in many cases. The value is from what people put into it. Their thoughts and interactions and pictures and more. The distinct flavor of the different instances is a strength of the Fediverse that cannot be replicated by a single company unless it loosens its grip so much that it ceases to be in charge of anything.
