Let them use it for a while then ask them if they’re ready to move to a more specific instance; at this point you’ll already know what they’re interested in.

@thomasfuchs doesn't directing them to a big instance just lead to a number of large instances taking over the fediverse?
I don't think widespread uptake will come from people attempting to join in the current way, it'll come from new instances springing up 7 bringing a current user base with them.
I'm surprised large media orgs with userbases haven't set up their own instances. It allow them sidestep the social media giants & talk directly to their users / readers / fans etc.
