Unpopular opinion: Breath of the Wild is not a good game.
Hoping the successor is better.

@fozztexx Same here. Breakable weapons are ridiculous. There’s a ton of frustrating stuff like that; plus major letdowns like the “dungeons” which are more like physics mini games, very weird for a Zelda.
@thomasfuchs I'm still wondering if I'm going to bother with getting BotW2. BotW made me rage quit constantly, I hated the breaking weapons and the unbeatable monsters. I would play for a bit then put it aside for several months, and after a couple of years of that I gave up.
@fozztexx it’s all just boring and repetitive. Im considering playing through ocarina of time again instead :)
@thomasfuchs The last thing I tried to get some value out of the game was go around and find all the shrines. The puzzle ones were ok, but there too meany "Feats of Strength" ones that were no fun at all. After hitting too many of those I gave up.
@stevewetherill I can see how they’re targeted younger gamers with different expectations.
The holy grail is something like Super Mario Galaxy that appeals to both old farts like us and new/young gamers. I hope they can pull it off, if not now then with the next one.
@thomasfuchs I could not get on with the game at all. My kids loved it.
@thomasfuchs I was very confused at why all my friends enjoyed a weapon fragility and cooking simulator so much
@amy @maddiefuzz @patrickcentral The fun part that I like games with grinding mechanics, like Diablo or Fallout; but for Zelda I have different expectations and it’s not good at the leveling/stats part either (like instead of 7,000 cooking recipes they could do customization of weapons)
@maddiefuzz @patrickcentral @thomasfuchs how? it’s empty af.
all the tasks are grinding like cheap iphone games that are designed to get you to pay to skip that part… simply terrible… if a zelda game is an adhd game, it’s a massive design fail
@amy @patrickcentral @thomasfuchs
The weapon durability was incredibly annoying.
I couldn’t stop finding things to do, though. I enjoyed it because I felt like I was playing ADHD: The Game
@patrickcentral @thomasfuchs and my favorite thing was how we couldn’t figure out what to do next, just like being a small child who didn’t understand anything and couldn’t afford a walkthrough magazine all over again!! i love feeling both ignorant and helpless, it’s so fun
@10MARC I wouldn’t rate anything without having given it a good go. I have maybe 40 hours in it and tried to like it but it’s just… boring. They got it wrong. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@thomasfuchs Wow... That is just not accurate, my friend! Breath of the Wild was incredibly engrossing! Did you play it?
@10MARC It’s great if you love it btw and if it’s entertaining you.
But for me, similar to Super Mario Odyssey, Nintendo missed the mark.
I’m not alone with this opinion. Here’s a great video review which touches upon many of the issues I see with it. https://youtu.be/T15-xfUr8z4
@amy @patrickcentral @maddiefuzz @thomasfuchs I think people used to grinding in RPGs, like myself, found the breaking weapons particularly annoying. I sometimes played for half an hour and ended up "weaker" than I started because I used up every shield fighting a Lyle.
