@thomasfuchs Are there any mechanisms in place to stop that from being misused for abusive messaging? Because it seems ripe to be exploited that way, if it's trivial to set up.
@thomasfuchs masto.host, which starts at like $6/mo (and several others). Most free mastodon instances being volunteer-hosted, the infrastructure required to do this (particularly TLS) is perhaps a lot to ask.
@justizin Both BlueSky and Mastodon have features to allow you to use your own domain name _without_ having to run a server (check out "Webfinger" for Mastodon).
It's just much simpler for BlueSky as a single DNS entry is enough.
@thomasfuchs can you set it to your "naked" domain - like I own scrwd.com amongst others and I don't want to be jon.scrwd.com
Hoping I get a BlueSky invite soon to give it a go. Would prefer to see Mastodon be the bigger success, or maybe better, a decent level of interoperatability.
