   As a futurist, I regularly track my predictions. I've been pretty right on most things for 30+ years.

   I realized today that the post I wrote in 2021 when I was pretty down about the state of world affairs, has now seen point #1 become true.

   The evidence? A Texas judge ruling on abortion - meaning that one person can now easily overcome majority rule; the situation in Tennessee (likely soon to be replicated and repeated in other states) with basically disenfranchises voters at will, and so much more.

   As a Canadian, it is terribly dispiriting to watch it happen in real-time. We are hopeful for our country but know we have challenges too.

     @jimcarroll And yet voters in two red states have rejected anti-choice laws & judges and Biden was elected in 2020, Jim.

     I'd think a "futurist" would realize it's important to look at all facts in totality rather than a select few.

     As a non-futurist, I'm predicting you've been duped into being a "useful idiot" by Russian and Chinese propaganda whose goal is to push negative stories about western democracy to push pessimism.

     I'm also predicting anyone who falls for that trap is not the future.

     Fully aware of Wisconsin, the most recent election, Biden, etc. Here's my son hanging with that guy.

     But in the grand scheme of things, the other guys are not fighting a fair fight, and I think the trend line is not great.

     (Also, I think folks on Mastodon generally try not to use phrases like 'idiot' etc. Kind of unbecoming. That was over on the 'other' place)

     @jimcarroll "useful idiot" is a term for a person who unwittingly propagates mis/disinfo ops against western democracies. So let's say China & Russia had a PsyOp to convince Western citizens their institutions were failing - then using your platform to push that narrative would make the "useful idiot" term apply, no?

     Oh, hey, something Mastodon people typically don't do is cringy flexes ... like posting pics of Biden with their kids as proof of ... nothing actually? <- the cringey part.

     If you ask your Gen Z kid he'll tell you that's pretty "main character"

     Jim, you're disappointing today. I"m not trying to be mean, but I am hoping you realize you're pushing the "it's all crumbling" message that's been linked to Russian troll farms and mimicked by VC catastrophists lately.

     I'm betting your constitution is such that you can hear a blunt opinion!
