    - Hi, can I help you?
    - Hi, yes, I'm looking for a tablet, do you have anything smaller? These all seem to be ten inches or bigger?
    - How small?
    - Seven or eight inches?
    - Seven inches? That's a phone.

    Wow, ok.

Another shop had an eight inch, one model only and I think it's a slightly older one.

And the first guy was right, phones really are like 6.6" now, crazy.

@clacke My current phone is 6.7 inches and I wouldn't want a smaller one.

@desikn My current phone (model from 2019 I believe, I bought it refurbed in maybe late 2021) has a 6.2" screen and it's slightly bigger than I'd like. I could hold a phone slightly bigger still somewhat comfortably, but I'd prefer not to.

Still, it's not a straight comparison. My phone is 14.5:7 ≈ 2.07 whereas a tablet is 16:9 ≈ 1.78, so the tablet gives you more area and width for the same diagonal.

I still don't get why phones and tablets keep growing over the years.

@clacke Why? Market, phones aren't phones any more. We still call them phones because you can use them to make phone calls but the reality is they are pocket computers. Making phone calls is not their primary use any more, it's games, social media, maps, etc. You need a big screen for that.

Remember Steve Jobs saying 3.5 inches is the perfect size for a phone? He refused to make the screen bigger while Samsung successfully released phablets. Well, he died and look where we are now.

@desikn I partly understand it. I make a phone call once or less per month on my phone, it's mainly a web device. Also there's this factor:

Still, I like my pocket computer to go comfortably in my pocket and a two-handed not too big screen to go on the sofa. If it's over ten inches I want a keyboard. I suppose I'm old-fashioned like that.
