? If I'm at a party with friends, and I say, "I have a question for men, and men only, "How many times a week do y'all shave?" Women are fine with it. They don't feel offended, or compelled to say, "Women shave too!"
If I say, "I have a question for white folk, and white folk only: Have you ever let a Black friend borrow your car?" Black folk are cool with it.
But if I say, "This next question is for Black folk only." Or "Only women answer this next one please!" People feel wounded.??♂️

Some of the best learning about marginalized communities can be had from listening to members of that community speak to each other about their problems. One of the situations where lurking is encouraged!
I learned a ton about what would help reduce Asian hate crimes, by listening to Asian women talk to other Asian women, without me or other non-Asian folk speaking.
I don't need to speak to contribute to the conversation or support a community. Being present and listening, *is* participating.

I could choose to view this as a personal insult. "Men aren't even allowed to speak?! That's reverse sexism!!!"
But it's really not.
Or "Only Asian people are allowed to speak about Asian hate?! Waddabout Anti-Black racism!!!"
But that's not a good framing.
I can talk about Asian hate whenever I want. And I do! Just... Not at a moment where an Asian woman asks other Asian women to share their experiences. I can't explain why this would be the absolute wrong time to insist that I talk too.

The point on how quote tweets can enable better conversations, is that someone could quote tweet my post and ask any questions they want. It's like "fork()." ??
They can even tag me in the QT!
Eg: "Hey, I didn't want to derail the other convo, but can you help me understand what you mean by 'Much of crypto is funded by Alt-Right adjacent VCs?' VCs love centralizing things so that they can control them. But isn't crypto decentralized and uncontrollable? Isn't that the whole point?"

Sometimes I'll broadcast something primarily for Black or brown followers. I leave the post open for replies, because I can't tag everyone.
If I say, "Hey Black folk, Crypto is mostly scams, most of it is going to zero, and much of it is funded by Alt-Right adjacent VCs who don't care about you or your financial future." This is not an invitation to debate whether Alt-Right folk care about Black folk.
"Nixon is racist? Prove it!"
"Reagan is racist? Prove it!"
"Trump is racist? Prove it!"
