I have never in my life felt so seen by a piece of writing. https://nymag.com/strategist/article/led-light-bulbs-investigation.html

LED bulbs are terrible!!! But when you talk to lighting normies about things like color temperature, they look at you like you’re from another planet!

@yoyoel I wish CRI was a required label on the packaging.

@Gargron @yoyoel Yes. It’s not just color temp (though that is of course critical). So many people say, “it’s great, you can get any color temp you want! What are you complaining about?” But the CRI is often terrible, flicker is common, dimmer compatibility is often questionable, and because of cost cutting by the manufacturers, they usually die way faster than claimed too.

I do have some LEDs I like (mainly SORAA and some older Cree from before they sold out), but the market is a mine field.

@Gargron @yoyoel Interesting thread! As an artist I hated fluorescent tubes, even the ones designed for artists had discrete emission lines that meant any work I did after dark had to be checked in daylight. CFLs were much worse.. LEDs feel like emerging into less alien illumination by comparison. I'm used to wavelength graphs, so CRI and CIE Ra are new to me. Human eye sees 380-800 nanometres. This chart gives me what I need:
