Jeremy Yap (jeruyyap@hachyderm.io)'s status on Wednesday, 29-Mar-2023 20:12:48 JST Jeremy Yap GPS satellites don't receive stuff from GPS devices. When using GPS by itself the device determines location by comparing the signals it can detect from the satellites.
The satellites themselves don't track the device, it's the other way around. The privacy issues with locations services come from the other methods used to determine location, like Wi-Fi and cellular networks.

GMate8 (gmate8@mastodon.online)'s status on Wednesday, 29-Mar-2023 20:12:49 JST GMate8 @AdamOnLinux I was always fascinated and the same way curious about satellite tracking. Even if we are "100%" protected, if we use GPS, a satellite is a huge man in the middle to leak our information to. And it does even matter where country did that satellite came from. USA, China, Russia, whatever.. #privacy
